The Wessex Folk Festival 2022 started with a rousing session at the Sailors Return Pub on the Friday night which was very well hosted by Peter Munz and Chris Reid – A full house with plenty of visiting singers and players enjoying a great selection of Folk songs, tunes and banter. It was a night to remember!
A wonderful selection of Pub sessions were enjoyed by full houses all round! Our roving reporter remarked the Dorset Wrecks Sea Shanty session was awash with harmonies and ale at the Sailors Return Pub on Saturday afternoon.
Morris Dancing around the town outside at the White Hart and on the Maypole site in St Mary Street was greeted with enthusiastic crowds who joined in to learn a few strokes with the sticks. The Morris sides then continued on to the Harbour side on Sunday with a variety of Dances. Fun was had by all!

The Stage in Hope Square had saw a full programme from 11am with the Ukekulelians performing and David Gordon singing and playing his guitar in a nice solo spot afterwards. Amy and the Raven continued the folk feel in the afternoon with the LeftOvers, a local 6 piece band, playing their catchy Folk songs. Murphy’s Lore from Poole were next followed by the Wight Hot Pipes who rocked the crowd with their Folk rock tunes and charismatic singer with flaming bag pipes included. The Ceilidh was very well received by the crowd who stayed and danced the afternoon away and was hosted by the Tree Fellahs.
The day finished as usual with the popular Survivors session at the Sailors Return pub on the quay which was a full house! A great few days at the Wessex Folk Festival 2022. Hope to see you here in Weymouth next year.
