Help out at Wessex Folk Festival
The Festival committee is working hard to make the 2020 Festival as excellent as in previous years. Artists, workshops, pub sessions and a host of Morris dance teams are coming together and we are getting very excited by the line-up.
Our venues over the weekend include the main Stage in the Square, the Harbour Stage, Sailors Return, The King's Arms, The Boot, Pilgrim House, Hope Church, Trinity Road and more. Continuing from last year's success, the festival site is now extended into Cove Row, which gives more room for a third Morris Dancing site and further trade stalls.
The Festival depends on our volunteer stewards to help the festival run smoothly over the weekend and be the welcoming face of the festival to locals and visitors alike. All of the committee are volunteers too and we will be out and about over the weekend working hard to make the Festival a success.
As the Festival is a free, non ticketed event, we depend on the funds from collections and the sales of Festival programmes and badges to keep the festival afloat and to fund further Festivals. One of the most important roles of the stewards is to be out and about with the collection buckets, selling badges and programmes; at the barriers on Trinity Road and in Hope Square; stewarding on the streets of the festival, at the pub sessions, by the Main Stage and Harbour Stage areas and alongside the Morris teams.
What else would we like you to do? Early bird volunteers on the barriers at the top of Trinity Street Saturday and Sunday are needed to monitor the exit and entry of permitted users; stewarding at sessions and workshops as necessary; giving information and directions to events and observing basic health and safety. Volunteers can give as much or as little time as they wish.
This year we have set up a 'Friends of the Festival' group to help out before the festival weekend with putting up posters, delivering flyers, labeling and securing collection buckets, promoting our festival on social media and sharing WFF with your friends - publicity is good! We would love to hear from anyone else who may be interested in helping out this way.
Are you interested and able to spare some time over the weekend? Please contact me at this email as soon as possible and let me know what time you can give and any preferences for volunteer roles.
We look forward to welcoming volunteers new and old to the team to make the Wessex Folk Festival 2019 a great success!
Look forward to hearing from you soon
