Pre-Festival Friday Warm-Up in Weymouth Harbour Pubs

Wessex Folk Festival

Weymouth Harbour  1st weekend in June

About Wessex Folk Festival

One of the biggest free folk music festivals in England, the Wessex Folk Festival has grown to become one of Dorset's favourite events, with thousands of music lovers visiting every year. With around 30 stage performances and many musicians and dancers around the harbour, this is without doubt not one to be missed!

Music and dancing in the streets

Wessex Folk Festival is effectively a free festival, with many acts on the open air stages and in the pubs around Weymouth's historical picturesque harbour. the streets will also be full of Morris Dancing Teams for your delectation and delight! The Festival is a not-for-profit festival, run by a team of volunteer committee members, and relies on support from the public (collection buckets) traders and sales of programmes. We also owe a gratitude to our Sponsors who advertise in the programme and on this site. Our thanks also goes out to Weymouth Volunteers, without whom the organisation of marshalling would be impossible.

The 2020 Wessex Folk Festival promises to be yet another really successful event. As soon as we book the acts, we post them on this website - so keep returning to be updated!

Free Festival

Wessex Folk Festival has continuous music from some of the best folk bands around, playing on two stages, all day Saturday and Sunday all FREE

We have no gates or festival opening times. You will not find a Wessex Folk Festival Ticket because there is no such thing. Wessex Folk Festival committee members work voluntarily all year to bring you this fabulous, free festival. The money raised each year from bucket collections, trade stall payments, advertising and sponsorship, etc. pays for next year's festival. It's that simple. So please give generously when the buckets come round, to ensure the show goes on!

Everything You Need

There are several pubs, bars and restaurants around the Harbour and Hope Square area, where, if you come early enough to get an outdoor table, you can watch the festival all day, eating and drinking from your chosen hostelry. Or you can bring your own food and drink (or just yourselves) and sit at the free tables we provide in front of the Stage in the Square. Some of the trade stall bars have seating areas, where you can enjoy the festival atmosphere while sitting by the Harbour, watching the boats go by and the town bridge go up and down. It's up to you. Just come along and have fun!

Trade Stalls

Wessex Folk Festival prides itself in the quality of its trade stalls. They are all hand-picked for type of products, visual appeal, quality and customer service.

Fabulous food and drink, gorgeous clothes and jewellery, artwork, hats - you name it. All there for you to enjoy browsing. Go on! Treat yourself!

Some of our traders also do the 'big' festivals, and all want to come back to Wessex Folk Festival year after year to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere

Morris Dancing

Wessex Folk Festival is alive with around 30 teams of Morris dancers leaping and stepping throughout the whole weekend on 3 different dance sites along Weymouth's picturesque Old Harbour. Click here to find out more

Wonderful Atmosphere

The festival starts on Friday evening with pub sessions around Weymouth Harbour and the traditional meeting up of Folk Music Lovers from far and wide (details of these sessions will be published here soon).

The main festival goes on all day Saturday and Sunday from around 11am until 6pm. Then, you can take your partners for the indoor Ceilidh on Saturday night. The whole festival takes place on Weymouth Old Harbour and in the adjoining Hope Square, so everything is close together and accessible. We don't have mud!!!!
